BLACK HANDS WHITE
I believe that these three English words (especially if they’re spelled in one breath) have a prompt and great power to explain the meaning of my work:
I use black&white technique to shoot these pictures of whom hands are the subject.
Hands are of colored people but both black and white particulars are in contrast with one another.
Black and white is a contrast you can render anyway as you like.
Hands, with their movements and their strength, represent life’s black and white.
In 2001 I had a cancer and all medical care time long I felt “some day black and some day white” and my hands were the only not sick part of my body I was completely able to use to reveal my uneasiness.
Since 2002, when doctors certified me well, I looked for the way to express those feelings: Black Hands White is that way!
Io sono convinto che queste tre parole inglesi (soprattutto se pronunciate “tutto d’un fiato”) posseggano una grande forza nell’esprimere il senso di questo mio lavoro:
ho usato la tecnica del bianco e nero per realizzare queste immagini di cui le mani sono il soggetto;
le mani appartengono a persone di colore ed i loro particolari bianchi e neri creano contrasto fra loro;
il bianco ed il nero creano un contrasto che ognuno può interpretare a proprio piacimento;
le mani, con la loro forza ed il loro movimento, rappresentano il bianco ed il nero della vita.
Nel 2001 io ho avuto il cancro e durante tutto il periodo delle cure ho vissuto “alcuni giorni bianchi ed alcuni giorni neri” e le mani erano la sola parte sana del mio corpo che io ero in grado di usare per esprimere il mio disagio.
Dal 2002, quando i medici mi hanno dichiarato guarito, ho sempre cercato il modo per esprimere quegli stati d’animo e quelle sensazioni: con Black Hands White ho trovato “quel modo”!
