Paola Pace | Painter

History

Born in Biella on April 2, 1968, I have been painting for as long as I can remember, thanks to my maternal uncle Claudio Sella, who loved any form of art and who perhaps passed on the love of painting to me congenial to me, taking me around Biella’s landscapes with canvases and brushes.

I painted in my middle school, high school years experimenting exclusively with oil painting and practicing reproductions of famous paintings, then more and more sporadically not finding time, absorbed in family life.

The Covid period arrives, and I find myself with much, much too much time on my hands.

I begin to buy acrylic paints , brushes trowels, canvases and pour out to an amount of feelings and emotions too long dormant.

Within 6 months I “churn out” about 70 paintings, ranging from abstractionism, to portraits of famous people or people in an almost pop-art style.

The period serves me as a gymnasium, reacquainting myself with materials and colors, experimenting with techniques, from fluid art, to the palette knife technique, to paper and glue for more textural paintings, even sand, cinnamon, coffee and cardamom for Earth colors.

In this sort of training, I erase already finished works by pouring layers of plaster like there is no tomorrow on paintings that did not satisfy me at all.

And I begin again, drugged, feeling sick at the thought of not having a blank canvas at home always at my disposal.

Then a long period of stasis, as if I had emptied myself of what I needed to “say.”

From this multitude I present to you some of the works, those that have been most popular in my circle of acquaintances.
With great humility, I call myself a self-taught artist, using this art primarily out of passion and as a medium into which to pour my moods, an interpretation of a suffering society and the world in color that my eyes now struggle to see.
While waiting for the next wave of creative inspiration.
