The art of engraving goes back as far as rock engravings.
The period where you can see the real development dates back to the VII century. There are Egyptians and Chinese works which can be traced back from early documents. In the course of time, woodcut, hand engraving and lithograpy developed.
Masters such as Michelangelo and Raphael were inspired with hand engraving. Engraving is also used with precious metals. As a technique, engraving can be seen applied on natural materials. Found in nature such as: wood, stone, earth, ice etc… and then arriving to artificial materials and/or of natural origin but worked by man, such as: plastic, resin, multi-layered woods, rubbers, polymers etc…
